As a Human Resources Manager for Student Affairs at University of Pittsburgh you will play a pivotal role in supporting our mission to foster a vibrant and inclusive student and staff community. This position will report to the Associate Director of Administration. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the goals of Student Affairs to attract, develop, and retain top talent. Oversee all aspects of the HR function within Student Affairs, including recruitment, facilitating onboarding, training, performance management, employee relations, roster management, leaves of absences, and salary increase process . As part of the Student Affairs HR team, the HR Manager will serve as a consultant to the Division in ensuring compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement(s) while fostering productive labor relations - including grievance handling, adherence to CBA terms, and maintaining positive employee relations in an unionized environment. As a representative of the employer, it is vital that this role maintains confidentiality and discretion as they have access to confidential and sensitive information to labor relation matters both for union and non-unionized employees. Collaborate closely with department heads and directors to understand staffing needs and provide strategic HR guidance. Contribute to the development and execution of the Division of Student Affairs' strategic HR initiatives.

Ensure compliance with University policies and regulations related to Human Resources. Conduct regular assessments of HR policies and procedures to ensure they meet the evolving needs of our diverse workforce. Serve as a resource and advisor to employees on HR-related matters, promoting a positive and supportive work environment. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional employment laws and regulations. Runs the biweekly and monthly payroll to ensure timecards were submitted timely and correct. Track and analyze HR metrics. Maintains records and databases for all personnel. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization. Proven track record of developing and implementing HR initiatives that support organizational objectives. Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in human resources management, preferably in a higher education or student affairs setting. Proficiency in Excel, including experience with data management, analysis, and reporting. Strong knowledge of PittWorx, Talent Center, payroll registers, and other University platforms is preferred.


Job Summary

Acts as consultant to managers for personnel related functions. Ensures personnel utilization is carried out in accordance with department, school, and University policies and enforces departmental systems and procedures. Performs administrative functions.


Essential Functions

-Oversees and directs human resources activities for department personnel, including payroll and visa requests for faculty, staff, post-doctoral students, graduate students, and undergraduate students/work study.

-Manages hirings, appointments, promotions, joint appointments, tenure clocks, faculty packages, time keeping and payroll processing, visa management, annual appraisals for faculty and staff, compensation administration, and employee relations.

-Gathers, interprets, and analyzes personnel, financial, and budgetary data to formulate responses for internal and external requests.

-Reviews payroll registers; reconciles payroll registers. Prepares salary rosters for annual increases.

-Creates offer letters, prepares and edits job descriptions, and coordinates orientation sessions for new employees.

-Assist with employee record guidance; acts as a consultant to managers for personnel related functions.

-Reviews and enforces department systems and personnel procedures to assure personnel utilization are carried out in accordance with department, school, and University policies, principles, regulations, and procedures. Initiate any necessary changes.

-Performs administrative functions, including preparing letters and correspondence; telephone, email, in-person, and online communications; and maintaining records and databases.
