QualificationsRS&H currently seeks a Summer 2026 Traffic Engineering Intern for the Transportation-Infrastructure Practice in our Charlotte, NC office. The Traffic Design Engineering Intern will be mentored by and collaborate with top Engineering associates on our team. The position involves participating in the development of highway engineering design, such as traffic signal design, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, and ITS for a variety of project types. This is an amazing opportunity to gain hands-on experience and a better understanding of Traffic Design Engineering and Transportation Engineering.
Responsibilities:- Assist with the preparation of plans and design on transportation infrastructure projectsAssist in the design and development of traffic signal plansDetermine locations for devices and develop details for ITS plansPrepare photometric calculations for roadway lightingAssist with the design of pavement markings and signageMay sometimes need to assist with field workOther entry level engineering duties, as needed
Qualifications:- Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Program at an ABET accredited university1-2 years remaining until program completion (Rising Junior, Senior, 1st or 2nd Semester Grad/PhD student)Interest and/or prior experience in the field of transportation/traffic engineeringAbility to work independently with general supervision as well as within a collaborative team environmentWillingness to work with different teams to meet project deadlinesA working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel)Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:- 2.5 GPA or abovePrior internship or related experienceCoursework that includes Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, and/or Traffic EngineeringExposure to AutoCAD, MicroStation
