Overview

Princeton University seeks a highly motivated, well-qualified individual to serve as a New Ventures and Licensing Associate in its Office of Technology Licensing (OTL). Experience both at Princeton and peer institutions has shown that such support is critical to successfully translating university research into useful applications for the public.

OTL facilitates the transformation of scientific and technological discoveries into products and services that will benefit society in a manner consistent with Princeton University’s mission as a non-profit University dedicated to preeminent research, education and public service.

OTL's primary focus is to provide the highest quality of service to support and encourage cutting-edge research by Princeton faculty and students.

The New Ventures and Technology Licensing Associate will report directly to the Director, Office of Technology Licensing, and will interact with other members of the OTL Team as well as Princeton faculty and researchers to develop, support and manage new venture initiatives based on Princeton research.

The New Ventures and Technology Licensing Associate will be expected to exhibit high ethics, integrity and respect for Princeton’s educational and research mission in all interactions on behalf of Princeton University and the Office of Technology Licensing.



Responsibilities

- providing exceptional service to Princeton faculty, research, and student community in matters pertaining to technology transfer, intellectual property and new ventures
- performing due diligence on promising technologies and ideas
- developing preliminary materials for promising new ventures
- building and maintaining a network of entrepreneurs, investors, service providers and advisors to support Princeton faculty in the creation of new ventures
- promoting new venture opportunities to entrepreneurs, investors and corporate partners who may be interested in further development of the pertinent technologies
- overseeing numerous administrative functions regarding entrepreneurship and new venture initiatives
- interact and develop relationships with faculty, research staff, and students as well as other offices, centers and institutes within the University environment

- negotiating and drafting options, license agreements, research agreements and similar documents; supporting faculty in the negotiation of founder and equity agreements
- managing a portfolio of technologies/licensing opportunities
- manage special projects and initiatives as needed


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

- degree in life or physical sciences or engineering
- at least 2 years of experience in a relevant field or position dealing with new ventures;
- ability to work independently and to manage a large, diverse set of tasks and projects with an attention to detail
- excellent time management and prioritization skills
- ability to develop and maintain a network of professional contacts
- excellent verbal & written communication skills
- strong work ethic
- team player
- excellent attention to details, follow-through & closing
- commitment to Princeton’s values and strong ethics are required

Preferred Qualifications:

- advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D. or MBA)
- previous experience in an academic environment or working in industry
- computer science, physics, or mechanical or electrical engineering background
