The Heavy Equipment Mechanic | Field Technician position will diagnose and repair all heavy construction equipment in the field. To ensure success as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues in the shop and on the job site. A Heavy Equipment Mechanic must demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. This position is based out of a local shop but travels to various sites as needed for equipment diagnosis and repair. Starting Salary: $23.00 - $27.00/per hour, plus overtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Driving to the job site to operate and inspect all construction equipment and components to determine needed repairs.
  • Diagnosing faults and ability to read schematics.
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting and ability to read hydraulic schematics.
  • Discuss equipment problems with supervisor and/or others as needed.
  • Repair, replace, calibrate, adjust and/or rebuild components.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper operation.
  • Inspect, add and/or change fluids and lubricants; check and replace worn parts and perform other routine service and maintenance.
  • Complete all required welding and fabrication work, as needed.
  • Read equipment manuals, service bulletins and other resources; attend training sessions. Maintain and update knowledge of equipment to be serviced.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.
  • Assist with ordering parts, materials and supplies needed for repair and maintenance.
  • Record work performed, time and materials used for each job; maintain related work logs and records.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, motor vehicles and heavy equipment and perform related duties as assigned by the Shop Manager.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform the above duties following the procedures developed by management (TPR, B2W Maintain, etc)

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous mechanical experience on heavy equipment, including asphalt plant equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a plus.
  • Good communication skills. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
  • An unwavering focus on safety.

  • Willingness to travel throughout West Texas and Oklahoma.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be capable of lifting arms above shoulder level to install and remove components as well as bend or stoop repeatedly over time.
  • Must be capable of manipulating tools in areas of limited spaces.
  • Able to move heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) long distances.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
  • Travel and some Saturday work are required.
