The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is responsible for instructing students, participating in the selection and organization of curriculum, veterinary protocol, equipment, and supplies. The DVM will also advise students and shelter facilities about key general care practices, medical conditions, and treatments along with proper medications, dosages, and protocols. Finally, student instruction will also include a focus on document preparation and management of medical records as part of the animal care process. The DVM will also demonstrate and supervise examinations on a variety of animals to diagnose their health needs and to ensure their long-term health. These activities could include treating animals for medical conditions, treating and dressing wounds, performing surgery on animals, testing for and vaccinating against diseases, and as part of this process, utilizing all applicable medical equipment.
