Our lab studies how vision arises through a combination of input via the eyes, with imagination and expectation within the brain. We use electrophysiological recording and microstimulation in non-human primates to understand visual processing in everyday life- including during waking, dreaming, and hallucinating- and during electrical stimulation of the visual pathway to induce perception following blindness. Crucially, we use chronically implanted neuroprostheses comprised of >1000 electrodes to observe and modulate population-wide neuronal activity with high spatial and temporal resolution in vivo.
