Overview:
The Phlebotom /EKG Technician provides direct and indirect inpatient and outpatient care servicesincluding phlebotomy, ECG testing and transportation of patients.
Responsibilities:
Verifies patient identification by using two patient identifiers: Name, DOB or Medical Record Number. Never identifies patient by room number. Labels all specimens in front of patient with required information, EMR ID, date and time of collection. Blood is drawn according to established hospital procedures in a safe manner with minimum trauma to the patient. Monitors for adverse effects of blood draws. Compliant with all safety standards and utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Understands and applies knowledge of test specimen requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens are collected correctly. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or management of unresolved orders...
