DELAWARE COUNTY ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER _*REQUIREMENT: Current and Active Admission in the New York State Bar.*_ DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Assistant Public Defender shall represent indigent defendants charged with crimes in Town and Village Courts throughout Delaware County. The Assistant Public Defender shall also assist the Public Defender with drafting and answering County Court motions, legal research, and trial preparation. The Assistant Public Defender shall counsel and represent the defendant at every stage of the proceedings following his/her arrest and shall initiate such proceedings as in his or her judgment is necessary to protect the rights of the accused. The Assistant Public Defender shall prosecute any appeals from local Courts which are assigned by the Public Defender.
