Field Service Representative

Job Description

Location: Field-Based | Travel: ~80% | Job Type: Full-Time

You know reciprocating compression - and you know how to get a job done in the field. As a Field Service Representative, you’ll take ownership of assigned field work from planning through completion, combining advanced technical expertise with direct customer responsibility.

You’ll serve as a key technical connection between Cooper, the customer, and the field crew, making decisions in the field, coordinating work, documenting results, and ensuring repairs and service activities are completed safely, correctly, and to specification.

At Cooper Machinery Services, you’ll work with some of the industry’s most recognized reciprocating engines and compressor platforms. With a heritage dating back to 1833, Cooper combines deep OEM expertise with field-proven experience supporting critical compression equipment around the world.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Own assigned field service jobs from planning through completion, coordinating resources, schedules, materials, and technical requirements.
  • Perform and oversee major overhauls, repairs, inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning of reciprocating engines and compressors.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for the customer, communicating job status, technical findings, recommendations, and required corrective actions.
  • Direct and delegate field activities while ensuring work is performed in accordance with OEM procedures, specifications, safety requirements, and Cooper quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain Statements of Work, material requirements, schedules, field workbooks, service reports, and other required documentation.
  • Apply advanced product-line knowledge to diagnose equipment problems, evaluate findings, and recommend repair or maintenance solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to Field Service personnel while coordinating with Engineering, Operations, Sales, and other internal teams to successfully execute customer work.

WHO YOU ARE

  • An experienced reciprocating compression professional with significant hands-on field experience and advanced knowledge of engine and compressor systems.
  • Capable of independently performing complex mechanical work and providing technical direction to others.
  • Experienced with major overhauls, troubleshooting, inspections, precision measurements, alignment, testing, and equipment repair.
  • Able to work across multiple product lines and use OEM manuals, technical documentation, drawings, and specifications to determine the correct course of action.
  • Comfortable owning a job in the field, from scope and planning through execution, documentation, and customer closeout.
  • Able to communicate technical information directly and effectively with customers, technicians, engineers, and operational leaders.
  • Experienced making technical decisions and resolving problems when field conditions differ from the original plan.
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 80%, including extended customer assignments and non-standard work schedules when required.

PREFERRED

  • Extensive experience with Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior, Gemini, Enterprise, Caterpillar, Clark, Waukesha, Ariel, or similar reciprocating compression equipment.
  • Experience developing SOWs, material lists, schedules, repair scopes, and customer recommendations.
  • Experience leading field crews or directing work performed by multiple technicians.
  • Experience with commissioning, startup, performance testing, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Technical certification, vocational training, associate degree, or equivalent advanced field experience.
