JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

To perform and inspect pipeline, facility (compressor station, meter station, etc.), and structural welding required for construction and maintenance of Company facilities including the installation, operation and maintenance of all gas and liquid pipeline related facilitiesMinimum requirements:

Education:

Experience/Specific Knowledge:
  • Previous working knowledge and experience as a pipe welder.
  • Knowledge of micrometers, calipers, and thickness testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic properties of metals.
  • Basic knowledge of pipe SMYS grades and ANSI fitting pressure classes.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to pass Tallgrass pipe Welding test prior to hire.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Achieve and maintain all qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.
  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties (regulatory welding certifications).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Ability to plan and organize work for timely completion.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and other diagrams.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong customer focus and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 71 pounds repeatedly, including lifting from floor to knees and floor to waist.
  • Capable of carrying up to 71 pounds up to a distance of 10 feet and 53 pounds up to 75 feet.
  • Capable of pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 55 pounds over distances of at least 2 feet to operate equipment, assist in welding setups, or moving materials.
  • Must be able to work at heights, including climbing ladders and scaffolding, often requiring fall protection equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of motions including bending, twisting, pivoting, and lateral flexion of the lumbar and cervical spine in confined or awkward spaces.
  • Dexterity for handling hand tools such as wrenches, grinders, and welding equipment, along with grasping and pinching small parts precisely and safely.
  • Physical endurance to stand, kneel, or lay in various positions (supine, kneeling, bending, or squatting) for extended periods, often in outdoor environments with exposure to weather extremes.
  • Flexibility to work at overhead, ground, and waist levels, often requiring sustained physical effort, balancing, and stability.
  • Ability to maneuver and position heavy or bulky objects over distances up to 20 feet, often involving visual concentration and steady manual control.

Working Conditions:
  • Must respond to, and address, callouts, and emergencies after regular business hours.
  • Varying working conditions from office settings to working outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Working with and around industrial hazards.
  • Frequent travel, sometimes overnight, may be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Living environs will be relevant to the work location to address call outs and emergency response.
  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit reports for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:
  • Previous knowledge of operating costs and best practices associated with the equipment in the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices, regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high- and low-pressure systems.
  • Experience operating equipment and dig around live lines.
  • Class A / B CDL
  • Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, or other industrial machinery.
  • Experience working on hazardous gas and liquids pipeline systems that incorporate API, ASME, and DOT codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices, regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high- and low-pressure systems.
  • Experience with hot-tapping equipment
  • Familiar with 1104 pipe code.
Other responsibilities:

The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This position may perform other duties as assigned.Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Perform and inspect welding operations on pipelines, piping systems, well equipment, tools, support structures and other equipment.
• Layout, cut, fit, and otherwise prepare material for welding.
• Fabricate material from piping schematics and other drawings.
• Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
• Plan and coordinate pipeline shutouts involving hot and cold welding.
• Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.
• Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
• Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
• Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork.
• Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
• Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
• Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
• Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
• Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
• Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
• Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
• Will maintain Operator Qualification on all assigned covered tasks as determined by direct Supervisor.
• Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined.
• Must be able to pass Tallgrass pipe Welding test annually and requalify every 6 months.
