Pedorthist / Orthotist — Foot Companion, Inc.
*North Chesterfield (Richmond), VA · Full-Time · $75,000–$86,000/year (depending on experience)*
Do work that actually changes lives
If you became a pedorthist or orthotist because you wanted to keep people walking — to be the reason a diabetic patient keeps their foot, the reason someone gets through their day without pain, the reason a child with a congenital deformity can run with their friends — this is a practice where that work is the whole point.
Foot Companion is an established Virginia practice built on more than two decades of pedorthic expertise. We serve VA hospital patients and a loyal community of clients across the Richmond region and beyond, and we hold ourselves to a clinical standard you'll be proud to put your name on. You'll work alongside a board-credentialed, nationally published pedorthist who is genuinely invested in helping you grow — not a corporate chain that treats clinicians as headcount.
Here, you practice at the top of your license. You'll have the autonomy to assess, design, and fabricate the right solution for each patient, the materials and fabrication support to do it well, and the mentorship to keep getting better.
Why clinicians want to work here
* *Real impact, real variety.* Diabetic shoe programs, custom and prefabricated foot orthoses, therapeutic and custom footwear, AFOs, and complex referrals — not the same three cases on repeat.
* *You're treated as the professional you are.* Clinical judgment is respected. You're trusted to make decisions and supported when you do.
* *Mentorship that matters.* Learn directly from an ABC-credentialed, published pedorthist (a contributor to the _Atlas of Orthoses and Assistive Devices_) who is committed to your professional development.
* *A practice that's growing.* Stable, established, and expanding — with room to build your career, not just hold a job.
* *Predictable schedule.* A true Monday–Friday, 8:30 - 4:30 (FOR FULL TIME). We respect your time outside the clinic.
What you'll do
You'll work from physician and podiatrist referrals to evaluate patients and deliver the footwear and orthotic care that gets them moving comfortably again. Day to day, you will:
* Assess and evaluate patients' lower-limb conditions as they relate to footwear and orthotic needs, including bone structure, joint motion, circulation, neuropathy, and skin condition.
* Measure, cast, scan, and take impressions of the foot and ankle.
* Determine the design, type, and specifications of the appropriate device.
* Design, fabricate, fit, adjust, and modify therapeutic and custom footwear, diabetic shoes, custom and prefabricated foot orthoses, and ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs).
* Select the appropriate materials for fabrication.
* Educate patients on the proper use, wear, break-in, and care of their devices, and guide them through follow-up.
* Document care and process orders in our electronic ordering/EHR system, with attention to Medicare/DMEPOS and payer documentation requirements.
* Collaborate with physicians, podiatrists, and the clinical team to coordinate foot-care management.
* Help maintain quality across the practice — and, if you'd like, mentor fitters, advise on complex cases, or contribute to special projects and process improvement.
* Perform other related clinical duties as needed.
What we're looking for
*Required*
* ABC or BOC certification as a *Certified Pedorthist (CPed)* and/or *Certified Orthotist* — or *Certified Fitter–Orthotics (CFo)* with relevant experience.
* Hands-on experience fitting and fabricating therapeutic footwear and foot orthoses.
* Genuine empathy, patience, and professionalism — you treat patients the way you'd want a family member treated.
* Willingness to complete a background check, in accordance with applicable law.
*A strong plus*
* Experience with diabetic footwear programs, custom orthoses, and AFOs.
* Familiarity with DMEPOS/Medicare documentation and VA patient care.
* Comfort with electronic ordering and patient-records systems.
