Lifeguard - Summer Camp

Job Description

Location: Hill Top Preparatory School – Summer Camp Program
Reports to: Camp Director
Employment Type: Seasonal (June 22nd to July 31st)

About the Program:
Hill Top’s summer programs are designed to empower neurodiverse youth and young adults through experiential learning, skill development, and social connection. As part of the clinical team, you’ll provide emotional support to campers across all three programs (Summer Adventures, Pathways to Independence, and Esports & Technology), helping each camper navigate challenges, build self-regulation skills, and thrive in a safe, inclusive camp community.

Position Summary:
Hill Top Preparatory School is seeking a certified Summer Camp Lifeguard to help ensure the safety and well-being of campers during swim activities throughout the summer program. This role is responsible for actively supervising campers in and around the pool, enforcing safety rules, responding quickly and appropriately to emergencies, and working closely with camp staff to create a safe, positive, and inclusive camp experience. The ideal candidate is attentive, responsible, calm under pressure, and enjoys working with children and adolescents in an active summer camp setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively supervise campers during all swim and pool-related activities
  • Enforce pool rules and safety procedures consistently and professionally
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies or safety concerns
  • Provide basic first aid and support as needed within the scope of certification
  • Communicate effectively with camp leadership and staff regarding camper safety
  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for neurodiverse campers
  • Assist with monitoring camper transitions to and from swim activities
  • Maintain a calm, attentive, and professional presence during the camp day
  • Support overall camp safety procedures as directed by the Camp Director

Qualifications:

  • Current lifeguard certification required
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required
  • FBI background check, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and fingerprinting are required
  • Experience working with neurodiverse populations (strongly preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain focused, alert, and calm in a busy camp environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • A professional, responsible, and supportive approach to camper safety

Schedule:
Camp runs from June 22nd to July 31st.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 3:45pm. Potential training days may be needed prior to camp and will be scheduled in advance.

Compensation:
This is a seasonal position. Pay commensurate with experience.
