Anesthesia Technician

Job Description

What We Offer:

Assists the anesthesia team prior to, during, and after patient procedures in any location anesthesia is provided across Novant Health. Proficient in sterilization, maintenance, packing, and resupply of the most complex anesthesia supplies and emergency equipment. Has significant patient contact while assisting in procedures and works collaboratively with the anesthesia team, nursing staff, and off-site resources.

 

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience Required: 1 year of previous experience preferred but not required.
  • Licensure/Certification: RQI Responder – must obtain within 90 days of hire, required.
  • Additional skills required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Understands and practices the importance of proper cleaning and disinfecting of anesthesia equipment; inventory and ordering ability in order to meet supply and demand; some knowledge of anesthesia equipment and medical terminology.
What You'll Do:

Anesthesia Supply & Inventory Management


• Prepares anesthesia supplies both preoperatively and post operatively by cleaning, maintaining, packing, ordering, and inventorying of anesthesia supplies.
• Ensures anesthesia equipment is available for staff. Checks and orders supplies, and replacement materials as needed. Maintains anesthesia workroom and equipment/supplies in clean and aseptic condition.

 

Equipment Maintenance & Preparation


• Maintains equipment by preparing, testing, setting up, and troubleshooting anesthetic equipment/ventilators.
• Replaces anesthesia gas tanks, disassembles used anesthesia equipment, and prepares inducers for invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
• Responds efficiently to turnover anesthesia machine and room.
• Calibrates and maintains point of care equipment.

 

Patient Support & Clinical Assistance


• Assists Anesthesiologist / CRNA with patient care procedures.
• Responds to codes that occur on anesthesia patients and anticipates needs while responding quickly and calmly in emergent situations.
• Assists with the application of blood pressure cuff, cardiac monitors, and pulse oximeter.
• Supports anesthesia team by setting up central venous lines, arterial lines, IVs, and invasive monitoring equipment.

 

Procedural Support


• Assists anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists with difficult intubations, regional blocks, and other various emergencies by providing necessary equipment and support.

 

Medication Security & Compliance


• Assists in maintaining the security of medications by immediately alerting pharmacy or nursing personnel of unsecured medications, emptying any medications sent by the pneumatic tube system and forwarding those to nursing personnel, if applicable, ensuring that medication areas are only accessible to approved designated NH workers.
