Description:
Coordinates, maintains and promotes the University of Houston's food safety and sanitation inspection program to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Acts as liaison between the University of Houston and regulatory agencies, contracted vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding food safety practices. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
1. Conducts routine and permitting inspections, follow-ups, and surveys of all university food establishments according to an established program and schedule and ensures compliance with city, state, and federal sanitation rules and regulations.
2. Oversees new construction and renovations of university food establishments, including reviewing and providing input on construction/renovation plans.
3. Conducts on-site compliance inspections of events and temporary food establishments held on University grounds.
4. Investigates campus complaints of food-borne illness, unsafe food practices, and general sanitation concerns. Provides assistance and information to city and state agencies on investigation(s) findings.
5. Coordinates and administers the Temporary Food Dealers Program, including permit processing, inspections, and record maintenance.
6. Reviews and evaluates the food vending contracts to ensure regulatory compliance and makes recommendations.
7. Inspects all University facilities and grounds for general safety hazards.
8. Prepares and submits reports, with appropriate documentation of food sanitation findings, safety inspections and makes recommendations.
9. Consults with faculty, staff, students, and vendors in matters concerning food sanitation.
10. Develops and provides training classes on food sanitation and safety to campus, including contracted food service vendors.
11. Serves as member of the emergency response team and supports emergency preparedness efforts by assisting in the maintenance and operational readiness of response equipment, food establishments, and temporary food operations to ensure safe and compliant conditions during emergency situations.
12. Issues valid food establishment permits to all campus food establishments in accordance with applicable local and state regulations.
13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
