Sr. Staff, Geophysicist

Job Summary

The Sr Staff Geophysicist will demonstrate a record of varied technical exposure to many global basins & petroleum systems. They will provide geophysical and geological support for seismic interpretation, seismic mapping, quantitative seismic interpretation, as well as lead identification, prospect evaluation, and prospect maturation.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced environment and proficient in using seismic interpretation to generate and mature exploration concepts from regional interpretations to drill-ready prospects. And an ability and willingness to provide operational support while drilling.

They will also have a firm understanding of geologic models for resource estimation and risk application utilizing statistical software such as GeoX is required. Additional beneficial skills include a demonstrated proficiency in Landmark's Decision Space interpretation platform and a familiarity with Petrel, amplitude analysis, and a firm understanding of depositional systems.

The Sr Staff Geophysicist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.

Responsibilities

  • Possess a deep understanding of regulatory process and requirements
  • Seismic interpretation to generate and mature exploration concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to document results, construct a story, and develop a concise supporting presentation to clearly communicate a recommendation to Senior Management
  • Hydrocarbon systems analysis
  • Prospect evaluation
  • Prospect development
  • Identify data/product for purchase, QA/QC during vendor projects
  • Present Murphy farm-in opportunities to other companies, review other company farm-out opportunities, project related interactions with partner companies
  • Collaboration, technical discussions, project peer assists/reviews, and mentoring/coaching

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Geology or Geophysics
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in exploration
  • Expert understanding of geophysical techniques including seismic acquisition, seismic processing, and AVO analysis
  • Landmark interpretation software experience required as well as knowledge in the HampsonRussell and RocDoc applications, Contouring software (ZMap or Petrosys), and resource analysis (GeoX) experience a must

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
