Under direct supervision, this entry-level position participates in the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Technician training and qualification program and performs limited IH job functions as assigned. The IH Technician, Junior assists senior IH personnel and management in ensuring monitoring, controls, and processes for reducing chemical, biological, and physical hazards comply with applicable procedures, contractual requirements, safety guidelines, DOE Orders, and federal, state, and local regulations. This position does not involve directing work activities or exercising discretionary decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide assigned technical, administrative, and functional support to the Industrial Hygiene team and management
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with detailed instructions, established policies, and procedures
  • Collect and analyze data within a limited scope and compare readings to predetermined limits
  • Assist in processing basic industrial hygiene analyses
  • Perform routine calculations using approved guidelines and formulas
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, charts, and spreadsheets
  • Provide administrative and functional support to IH personnel
  • Perform duties of general or routine complexity
  • Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate safe work practices in accordance with approved safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Actively participate in Safety Work Groups
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED with one (1) year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Typical experience range: 1-4 years
  • Active DOE security clearance, or ability to obtain
  • Radiological training, or ability to obtain
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic understanding of federal and state regulations, site policies, and project requirements
  • Intermediate interpersonal and communication skills

Working Conditions
  • Work performed in an environmental restoration setting, including outdated or abandoned facilities
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, solvents, radioactive materials, and moving equipment when safety procedures are not followed
  • Ability to wear respirators and required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to carry multiple instruments and equipment while walking extensively
  • Work may involve prolonged standing and walking, pushing/pulling, and repetitive movement
  • Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently (use of buddy system required for lifting over 45 pounds)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, heat stress environments, areas with radiation, and high-noise conditions
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes
  • May be required to operate company vehicles in compliance with DOT and safety requirements
