Position Overview

The crew member is essential to the Equipment/Truck Shop crew. The crew member will assist in all assigned jobs pertaining to helping the shop(s) running at normal efficiency levels.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Duties will vary with daily and weekly tasks including but not limited to: Pick up and delivery of parts from vendors, cleaning facilities, emptying trash, organize and upkeep of shop, and other tasks as assigned by Shop Supervisor, Parts Procurement or other managers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal employees and external vendor representatives, verbally, written, text, or email.
  • Basic PC/smartphone/tablet usage
  • Properly follow all company policies for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Attendance required according to Company Attendance Policy to ensure crew can operate at normal efficiency level.
  • May be required to use power and/or hand tools such as shovel, rake, hammer, and other tools associated with working in a shop environment.
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies.
  • Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks at shop.
  • Physical ability to work in shop under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shift is 8-12 hours.
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter, able to take direction, change tasks/prioritization as directed to facilitate timely maintenance operations.


Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High school education or GED preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in construction or shop environment is preferred but not required

Work Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively ensure shop personnel understand what is expected and what needs are lacking.
  • Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes.
  • Overtime work required as work load dictates.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company.
  • Requires operating company vehicle, employee must meet Driver Qualification Standard.
  • Must have a current Drivers License and a good driving record
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check will be required
  • Ability to practice safety standards per Company Safety Policy requirements.


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks in and around shop under extreme temperatures and for extended hours of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders as needed.
  • Uses tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools in a shop environment.
  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, stooping stretching, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, standing, reaching and squatting
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. while using proper lifting techniques.
