The Orthopedic Technician I
Assists physicians and staff in delivery of direct medical care in a high volume, clinical setting.
Applies and removes orthopedic castings, splints, braces, and ace wraps.
Applies basic dressing changes.
Performs patient/family education to include casting care, follow up, wound care, removal of splints per physician/physician's assistant direction and alterations in activities of daily living required to enhance casting therapy. Documents education provided and patient's level of understanding.
Assists with patient triage.
Helps maintain orthopedic supplies. Communicates supply usage for inventory purposes.
Resolves most issues and problems but refers the complex issues and problems to supervisor.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent education required. Commitment to work toward national certification in orthopedic technology required. Completion of basic medical terminology course and basic skeletal anatomy, provided by Carilion Clinic.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Understanding the theory and application of skin skeletal traction.
