Paramedics provide emergency and non-emergency paramedical care to the ill and injured during a Disaster Deployment. Paramedics respond to emergency calls, perform medical services and transport patients to medical facilities and continue to give care as necessary during the transport of the patient to the hospital. Paramedics also can give medications orally and intravenously, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs) and use other monitors and complex equipment. Paramedics must perform their duties in a calm, reassuring and efficient manner. They must be able to maintain their composure in extremely stressful situations in order to assess medical situations and perform emergency lifesaving procedures according to the methods in which they've received training. Paramedics must be able to deploy for a minimum of fourteen (14) days. Conditions during a deployment will vary depending on resources available.
