Position Title Research Scientist Department Pharmaceutical Sciences Division College of Pharmacy Vacancy Number 20-140 Work Location Atlanta, GA Job Type Full-time Job Category Staff Responsibilities The Research Scientist will be engaged in behavioral and neuropharmacology studies of novel drug formulations as well as combinations of natural products that are potential treatments for sleep, mood, pain, and addictive disorders. The Research Scientist will be involved in behavioral studies in laboratory rodents, including drug self-administration, pharmacokinetics, assays of sleep and sedation, and assay of anxiety. Ideally, the person should be familiar with these assays as well as dose ratios, neuropharmacology, and the endocannabinoid and dopamine neurotransmitter systems. The person should also be familiar with data analysis, statistical programs, and pharmacology software, such as GraphPad. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision on assigned or mutually developed research projects in the Psychopharmacology research laboratory of Dr. Kevin Murnane. This position will work a 5 day/week schedule and is eligible for benefits. Potential start date is October 15, 2019. Required Qualifications A PhD in a related field (preferably in pharmacology or neuroscience) from an accredited college/university is required along with at least three years of prior experience to include behavioral and pharmacology studies. The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills for the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and proposals. Candidates who have experience with data analysis software, statistical programs, graphing program, and pharmacology software, such as GraphPad are desirable. Must have a good understanding of the mathematical and statistical principles necessary to analyze and report pharmacology research results. Is a criminal background check needed for this position?
