The primary responsibilities are to write, edit, and coordinate the Project Manuals and provide Quality Assurance support firm-wide across all Studio's, market sectors and regional offices. This encompasses a variety of building and construction types that include Healthcare, Higher Education, Multi-family Residential, Hospitality, Civic/Public Safety, Commercial, Retail, and Corporate Work Place projects. The successful Candidate will write the architectural specifications and coordinate the consultant specifications throughout the milestone deliverables of projects in compliance with project requirements, industry standards, office policies and standards, as well as existing laws, regulations and codes. This includes outline specifications when required. In addition, this detail-oriented individual will work to constantly update the office master specifications; prepares, maintains, and updates master sections developed specifically for certain market sectors or building types. Roles and responsibilities: Constantly maintains awareness of evolving building technology, codes, and systems. Researches new products and materials, and construction processes. Maintains and promotes in-house specifications procedures and process. Works directly with the project managers and Construction Administration Department to improve the office master specifications through the lessons learned. Supports the Project Manager to establish labor budget for preparation of specifications deliverables for project work plans. Works in tandem with project teams to respond to the technical implications of design decisions. To provide guidance on use of proposed building products and materials, their suitability for the intended application, and suggests alternatives when appropriate. Actively participates in Quality Assurance reviews, project team constructability reviews and staff training and mentorship process. Periodically performs technical and QA reviews of the construction documents to "redline" the drawing set to ensure that the technical specifications and related drawings are complete and coordinated to meet the Hoefer Wysocki office standards including all consultant specification formatting conventions. Provide technical assistance concerning construction and bidding. Supports the specification updates and changes as needed with the project teams in the preparation of addenda and in review of requests for substitution. Maintains awareness of sustainable design ratings systems, and sustainable products and materials. Incorporates sustainable materials and products in specifications whenever possible, including LEED V.4 requirements that addresses Hoefer Wysocki's ongoing commitment to sustainable design and material health. Maintains awareness of the Hoefer Wysocki Precautionary List and avoids specifying materials and products containing substances on the list whenever possible. Experience with AIA contract documents and with preparing Procurement Requirements when required; receives owner's Division 00 documents for inclusion in Project Manual; coordinates supplementary general conditions to coordinate with for client and Construction Manager General Conditions. Collaborates with peers, via regularly-scheduled firm wide internal learning and development conference calls, to share knowledge, develop best practices, and maintains awareness of industry reference standards and sources/ locations. Leads the development of specification policies and procedures to assure that office standards for Hoefer Wysocki are technically current and constantly updated. Contributes to meeting firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability to uphold the highest quality standards for technical design, drawing templates, and office master specifications. Support the development of in-house technical initiatives and office-wide training. Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions, and legibility. Facilitate internal educational sessions when requested. Job Requiremetns Job Requirements: We're looking for someone with 20 years of experience as a dedicated Specifications Writer. Masters or Bachelor degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management, plus 10-15 years of experience in the design & construction industry preferred. Prior experience with public client projects, especially working in U.S. government master specification systems and experience in design-build, developer driven focus is a plus. Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Must have obtained and held current a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification. Architectural registration required with current license. NCARB registration preferred. LEED Green Associate Accreditation, Well Building accreditation, or Green Globes accreditation desired. Membership and active participation in industry associations (AIA, CSI, etc.) preferred. Qualifications/Skills: Successful candidate will have excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to meet all deadlines. The Candidate will posses strong verbal and written communication skills, communicating collaboratively in a team atmosphere of Project Architects, Project Managers, Clients, and Contractors. Candidate must be proficient in MasterWorks, Microsoft Office software, and familiar with ARCOM MasterSpec library. Candidate must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
