The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) promotes sustainable and equitable transport worldwide. ITDP is a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with offices in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico and the United States. ITDP’s programs focus on bus rapid transit, non-motorized travel, travel demand management, parking, transport policy and urban development. More information about ITDP can be found at www.itdp.org. ITDP has been working in Boston since 2012 with the goal of getting the first Gold-Standard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in the United States opened in Boston. ITDP plans to build on previous work in BRT planning and shift to a corridor-level implementation focus, leveraging recent political leadership in the City of Everett. It will continue to build support for a network of BRT corridors in greater Boston across municipalities. These efforts will raise the visibility of the City of Boston’s plans for BRT and begin to place the region back in the pantheon of places with great transit systems. The Boston Program Sr. Associate is based in Boston, Massachusetts and will play a key role in supporting the conceptualization, design and implementation of sustainable transport solutions. The primary work area will be technical coordination in greater Boston, specifically working with the U.S. Director, Boston Program Manager and consultants to develop a BRT Roadmap planning document that considers infrastructure, operational, financial and communications components. The Sr. Associate should have a command of BRT service and infrastructure planning as well as a willingness to learn the latest international best practices for implementation in greater Boston. Additional work areas will include street design, parking management, and urban development policy related to BRT corridor development. The job will entail fieldwork, including site visits. The Sr. Associate will compile and help analyze primary and secondary transport data, oversee conceptual designs and monitor project implementation. The work requires close partnerships with public agencies, consultants and advocacy organizations. The Sr. Associate will report to the U.S. Director and will be expected to work flexibly and creatively with the U.S. team, municipal partners and consultants. RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as a point person for and work on technical components of ITDP’s work in greater Boston, especially related to developing the BRT Roadmap.
