Coordinates the activities of the IACUC committee and provides support to the other compliance committees. Analyzes protocol applications, conducts semi-annual review and inspections, & participates in conducting ORI compliance education/outreach activities for faculty, staff and students.

  • Coordinates the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) but also provides support to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Institutional Review Entity (IRE), and the Lab Safety Committee.
  • Analyzes protocol application submissions to ensure they follow all regulatory requirements including but not limited to OLAW, USDA, AAALAC, and the Guide.
  • Records meeting minutes of convened committee meetings.
  • Assists with conducting semi-annual reviews and performing inspections of facilities and laboratories.
  • Assists with post approval monitoring of protocols.
  • Updates committee members on status of protocol submissions, committee deadlines, and regulatory updates.
  • Processes and/or drafts approval letters for initial, amendment, renewal and event form submissions.
  • Assists with maintaining FIU's Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation.
  • Participates in conducting ORI compliance education/outreach activities for faculty, staff and students.
  • Performs other related duties required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of relevant experience.

 

Desired Qualifications:          

  • IACUC auditing and/or QA/QI experience preferred.
  • 2 years of experience with IACUC.
  • Certified professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of OLAW, AWA, and USDA
  • Proactive individual who functions independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized with advanced attention to detail and strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact on a professional level with faculty, staff and students.
