What You Do

The Senior Director, Talent and Organizational Effectiveness leads Flamboyan’s talent development and management efforts in our Washington, DC office. You are responsible for developing strategies to recruit, retain, and develop our biggest asset, our talent. In addition, you are responsible for developing strategies to ensure alignment of organizational culture, performance, leadership, reputation, systems, and processes. You exemplify Flamboyan’s Core Values and act in accordance with Flamboyan’s policies and procedures. You are skilled at incorporating equity into all elements of human resources and build relationships and knowledge about our work in Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, supporting Flamboyan staff in both geographies to ensure offices are aligned along programs and organizational culture, while respecting the unique context and culture of each office. Your experience and skill in creating a long-term talent strategy ensures the organization embodies its values, develops its talent, and successfully transitions from an entrepreneurial start-up organization to an innovative, sustaining organization. The Senior Director, Talent and Organizational Effectiveness is part of the Operations Team and reports to the Senior Managing Director, Operations and Organizational Development.

Responsibilities

Hiring

  • Supports teams to develop planning goals, objectives and systems that will ensure the effective, efficient, and equitable recruitment and hiring of new staff
  • Coordinates smooth, efficient, and equity-centered processes for developing job descriptions and for launching recruitment, interviewing and pre-employment systems processes
  • Oversees planning and implementation of new-hire onboarding and orientations, including orientation to culture of success, review of racial equity work, and ensuring a sense of belonging and welcome for everyone. Through effective onboarding, ensures Flamboyan is setting and building context for new staff in their first three months, so they are able to efficiently navigate and access information. Supports managers to ensure they are properly equipped to support job-specific onboarding of their new hires, being mindful of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness dimensions of the on boarding process

Organizational Performance & Talent Management

  • With senior leadership, defines appropriate people strategies to drive performance and implements HR programs to effectively support business direction that produces better talent outcomes year over year. In particular, ensure that the perspectives of people of color and those from historically marginalized groups are actively represented within the organization and that all individuals are situated to make decisions that are equitable
  • With senior leadership, supports the design, development, implementation and continuous improvement and re-engineering of equity-centered talent management programs, systems, and processes, including performance management, goal setting, and succession planning
  • Partners with leadership to inform decisions and strategies regarding professional development, education and training needs in order to fill gaps in the talent pipeline for critical positions and high performance/high potential employees
  • Serves as a thought partner to managers and staff related to equitable performance assessment

Systems:

  • Provides oversight and is responsible for engagement strategy, honing and refining current staff satisfaction survey metrics that enable Flamboyan to track staff engagement; develops, delivers, and supports analysis and interpretation, applying an equity lens
  • Provides support to teams involved in change initiatives, to ensure alignment and shared understanding
  • Designs and develops strategies to assist employees, management, leadership, and teams with cultural alignment and change management
  • Develops reports and analyzes hiring and talent, with an eye to equity in recruitment, hiring, and retention, flagging disparities or highlighting successes, for review and discussion with leadership
  • Supports the transformation of structures that strengthen our culture, in particular, identifying ways teams can most effectively communicate and engage, through meetings, virtual, phone, email, and other systems and structures, to ensure clarity around organizational practices and strategy implementation, considering diversity, equity, and inclusiveness implications of these engagement systems
  • Supports and implements a professional development strategy for the organization that enable the success of a diverse staff, with specific attention to systematizing the practices needed to ensure an inclusive, positive experience for all staff, including aligning all staff to a common understanding of professional development and designing systems for learning and cross-organizational collaboration

Organizational Culture:

  • Identifies barriers to achieving high performance and engagement and develops strategies to address these gaps; supports the transformation of structures, leadership practices, and systems that support our culture
  • With President and SMD, Operations and Organizational Development, co-develops organizational strategies related to strengthening positive organizational culture (for example, conducting “stay interviews”, developing strategies to address barriers discovered through staff surveys, etc.)
  • Seeks out effective touchpoints to help ensure that PR and DC offices are sharing information effectively and are aligned around programs and organizational culture in ways that also make sense for each office's unique individual context
  • Working with leadership, supports the integration of Flamboyan’s Core Values more intentionally into all roles so we can model these values as we advance our mission

Organizational Stewardship

  • Serve as an ambassador for Flamboyan’s organizational brand generally and our family engagement work specifically locally and nationally

Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in culture change, employee engagement, and talent management, which should include some combination of experience in training and facilitation, performance engagement, career mobility/development, leadership and professional development, individual/team/leadership assessment services, outcomes measurement, metrics, and analysis
  • Ability to think strategically and build systems and processes for effective talent acquisition, development and management across the organization, and demonstrated ability to help leaders determine links between organizational culture, strategic initiatives, and talent; excellent analytic, problem-solving, and coaching skills, with the ability to take a thoughtful and data-driven approach to addressing challenges
  • Deep value in people and individuals’ ability to grow and learn and experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; commitment to engaging in ongoing self and organizational efforts to dismantle structural racism and institutionalize anti-racist practices
  • Exceptional people, relationship building, and communication skills, with a strong customer service mentality and high degree of discretion, integrity, accountability and emotional intelligence
  • Bachelor’s or above in business administration, organizational development, organizational leadership, or a related degree, preferred
  • Spanish language skills a plus
