Step Into a Leadership Role That Transforms Student Life
Are you passionate about creating vibrant, inclusive spaces where students thrive, connect, and grow - As the Assistant Director of Student Unions at Alfred State College, you won't just be managing facilities - you'll be shaping the student experience.
Reporting directly to the Director of Student Engagement, you will take center stage in a role that blends strategic planning, team leadership, and hands-on event coordination. You'll become a driving force behind student involvement and community building on campus.
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Lead Day-to-Day Operations
You'll be the heartbeat behind our student spaces - including the Student Leadership Center, Pioneer Student Center, MacKenzie Commons, and more. Your job is to make sure these spaces are welcoming, efficient, and purpose-driven, serving the diverse needs of students, faculty, and the campus community.
2. Guide and Inspire a Team
Step into a leadership role where you'll supervise and mentor a pre-professional student team. You'll coach them to deliver outstanding service and represent the student unions with pride, professionalism, and a student-first mindset.
3. Create Memorable Experiences
From club meetings to large-scale events, you will oversee the full event process - from the first reservation to final cleanup. Using the Event Management System (EMS), you'll coordinate all the moving pieces, including facility setup, staff scheduling, and logistical planning, for both indoor and outdoor activities.
4. Shape Campus Policy
You'll collaborate closely with the Director of Student Engagement to design and implement policies that govern how student union spaces are used - making sure everything runs smoothly, safely, and equitably.
5. Be the Ultimate Connector
You'll work hand-in-hand with student clubs, faculty, staff, and even external partners. Your strong communication skills will help bridge ideas, resolve conflicts, and keep everyone moving toward a shared goal of student success.
6. Manage Budgets that Make a Difference
Put your budgeting skills to work by helping allocate and oversee student fee funds - ensuring every dollar enhances campus life and supports meaningful student-driven initiatives.
7. Empower Student Leaders
You won't just manage a team - you'll build leaders. From hiring and training to ongoing mentorship, you'll foster growth, confidence, and real-world skills in your student staff. You'll also support fraternity and sorority life as a key partner in leadership development.
8. Ensure Safety and Risk Awareness
You'll bring a safety-first mindset to every event, applying your knowledge of risk assessment to protect the wellbeing of everyone who uses the student unions.
9. Drive Campus Programming and Experiences
You'll take an active role as a programmer - both directly and through the support of your pre-professional student team - by helping to bring dynamic social, recreational, and educational programs to life. Whether you're brainstorming new event ideas or guiding your team through planning and execution, you'll play a key role in making sure our campus is buzzing with energy, inclusion, and engagement.
This is more than a job - it's your chance to make a lasting impact on campus culture and student life. At Alfred State College, you'll help students find their voices, build communities, and create memories that last a lifetime.
