The Financial Aid Compliance Officer assists with maintaining full compliance of all rules and regulations that govern or affect the ability of FlU to provide financial aid to students. Works with the Financial Aid Office and areas across campus to communicate their role in federal compliance and work to identify deficiencies and correct them. Administers and leads one or more of the listed Financial Aid Programs. Supervises a Financial Aid Officer.

  • Assists the Financial Aid Office with maintaining full compliance with all rules and regulations that govern or affect the ability of FlU to continue to receive and disburse federal financial aid funding.
  • Interprets and effectively communicates federal, state, and institutional regulations specific to Title IV funds for administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Administers and serves as functional lead for administering one or more of the listed Financial Aid programs as needed on a cyclical basis and as directed by supervisor(s). R2T4 and Athletics.
  • Acts as Liaison for all audits, provides input and research necessary for resolution of audit findings.
  • Responsible for drafting and maintaining required policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of all policies, procedures, and regulations relating to federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs including Pell, SEOG, Direct Loans, Work Study programs, and Florida financial assistance programs.
  • Monitors and keeps the Financial Aid management team informed of potential changes to rules and regulations so the office can be proactive in planning rather than reactive.
  • Acts as a change agent in all matters regarding the improvement and efficiency of projects. Researches and analyzes complex problems and recommends and implements appropriate solutions.
  • Performs regular internal audits of key processes such as verification, Satisfactory Academic Progress, R2T4 to ensure that staff are performing these functions accurately in accordance with regulations.
  • Assures staff is trained to support the administration of aforementioned programs and compliance requirements.
  • Performs regular Federal Student Aid Assessments to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Assists with recruitment. Facilitates university's orientation and high school outreach to present financial aid information to prospective students and parents.
  • Analyzes applicants and their family's personal circumstances to establish their ability to contribute toward the cost of education. Counsels current and prospective students on application procedures, eligibility criteria, program requirements, and other financial aid concerns.
  • Performs other related duties are required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of financial aid or related experience or a Master's degree and two (2) years of financial aid or related experience.

Departmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain clearance for National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) access, which requires no default on federal financial aid, within 60 days of employment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in financial aid software and database systems.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience presenting to small and/or groups.
  • Experience partnering with others in the University community.
