Under the direction of the Chief of Police or designee, provides leadership, coordination and supervision for the department's outreach efforts.

  • Serve as liaison between the Florida International University Police Department and individuals within the FIU Community including but not limited to victims, students, faculty, staff, and department personnel.
  • Support both the public and Police Department personnel by providing specialized assistance, consultation and case follow-up for crisis intervention and referral to mental health services and needs, including department consultation and training on the same.
  • Facilitate relationships with various social service agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to supporting community members, providing mental health support, and providing a community policing response.
  • Attend regularly scheduled and special meetings held by community based organizations, public health agencies, law enforcement organizations, and other stakeholders as a representative of the Department.
  • Promote, execute, and enhance Departmental events that serve to provide outreach to include but not limited to, "Faith and Blue" and "Torch Run".
  • Create and/or facilitate various presentations grounded in mental health best practices and strengths-based frameworks to a law enforcement-based audience.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of office or related experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with community outreach to non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience presenting to large groups.
  • Experience in meeting with individuals and providing appropriate referral to resources.
