Job Description

Overview: 

Insight PA Cyber Charter School (Insight PA) seeks an experienced DEI professional to provide strategic and creative leadership to advance Insight PA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and established initiatives. As a member of the Cross-Functional Leadership Team, the Director of DEI will work collaboratively across the organization with all departments to develop, monitor, and report on actionable and measurable DEI goals, strategies, and metrics in alignment with Insight PA’s goals.

Through the coordinated efforts of dedicated student teams, including advisors, counselors, and family support staff, Insight PA Cyber Charter School creates an educational environment where all Pennsylvania students can reach their maximum potential.

Key Responsibilities:

 Strategy Development and Support

  • Work with staff and leadership across the organization in developing proactive, integrative strategies, approaches and multiyear plans to successfully achieve the internal diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives and goals developed through the DEI sub-committees and approved by the Board of Trustees.

  • Consult with and advise the senior leadership to facilitate an organization-wide shared vision of dismantling institutional racism and discrimination that may be present in Insight PA and reporting on the progress of inclusion and equity strategies and goals.

  • Provide coaching, technical assistance, and monitoring to all programs and departments in their development of multiyear diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, objectives, and goals in alignment with the DEI sub-committees’ work.

  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Board and leadership to provide support and guidance in all matters DEI.

  • In cooperation with the Director of Human Resources, ensure that staff recruiting, hiring, and career advancement practices comply with best practices to ensure equity along with any relevant Federal, State, and local diversity requirements for an employer.

  • Work with the Director of Human Resources in the implementation and improvement of the staff satisfaction surveys to measure Insight PA’s progress toward creating a workplace climate of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Organizational Learning

  • Create and deliver learning and capacity building opportunities for staff around diversity, equity, &
    inclusion, institutional and structural racism, discrimination and prejudice, gender justice and feminism, and overall cultural competence that reflects the diverse community that is Insight PA students and staff.

  • Maintain active and current content in the to-be-developed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion resource center intranet page, with relevant resources, tools, and best practices, policies and directives, and procedures that are easily accessible and available to staff across the organization.

  • Develop targeted training, tools, and resources to support school leaders in the management of diverse staff and teams.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the planning of the diversity, equity, and inclusion component of orientation for all staff with the active support of Human Resources.

  • Design, develop, and implement organizational DEI dashboard reports, workflow metrics, and analysis to identify historical trends.

 

Recruiting, Networking, Hiring

  • Work closely with the Director of Human Resources and recruiting team toward the goal of recruiting from a more diverse candidate pool for Insight PA’s employees.

  • Mentor, support, and help retain faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds to achieve workplace inclusion and a sense of belonging.

 

Monitoring and Reporting 

  • Prepare an annual report for senior leadership and the Board on the learnings and effectiveness of assessments on DEI-related decision-making across the organization.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Human Resources monitor and report annually on the implementation and progress toward staff and board DEI goals.

  • Works with Human Resources to identify areas of concern and develop appropriate strategies to achieve EEO goals.

  • Visit programs periodically, meeting with the program leadership and staff to support and address diversity goals.

  • Provide quarterly reports outlining the progress, barriers, and proposed improvements in implementing DEI goals and strategies with staff to school leadership.

 

Relationship Management 

  • Participate in local, state, and national equity networks and partnerships to ensure that our policies and practices are in keeping with the best practices in the field and to share Insight PA’s experiences and learnings in this regard.

  • Helps to create and foster a positive school culture by involving school staff, students, and parents.

  • Works collaboratively with fellow employees, our students, and their families, the education management organization, Insight PA leadership team, and Insight PA Board of Trustees.

Compensation:

The Director of DEI at Insight PA serves on the Cross-Functional Leadership team and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications

Candidate Profile: 

A dedicated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion professional with experience in community engagement, organizational assessment, and various HR strategies associated with recruitment, retention, and professional development. Ideal candidates will have experience in and be adept at providing support and DEI professional development for staff; a strategic sense of recruiting and retaining diverse talent; and experience with the assessment and evaluation associated with DEI work within organizations.

 

Professional Characteristics: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a DEI-related field, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field required

  • At least 3 years of professional strategic or operational experience with DEI initiatives

  • All PDE required clearances for school-based personnel

  • Cultural competencies and experience working with and building a diverse community of employees.

  • Strong analytical skills are needed to track and analyze data in order to uncover trends and create strategic plans to improve results.

  • Confident in facilitating, presenting, and speaking to both internal and external audiences.

  • The ability to communicate compelling feedback that impacts instruction, decision-making, interpersonal interactions, motivates management, and accelerates achievement.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and support continuous improvement principles utilizing a systemic approach and data for decision-making.

  • Experience leading transformational or organizational change.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous programs and manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI principles.

  • Collaborative, resilient, flexible, diplomatic, confident, and patient, and possesses a sense of humor and professional presence.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
