The University of Nevada, Reno Southern Area Extension is looking for an Extension Specialist as an Assistant/Associate Professor in the field of Horticulture. This position is located in Las Vegas, NV.
The Extension Specialist will guide collaborative work with communities to respond to opportunities and challenges facing Clark County and Nevada. This position will educate, connect, and create information and content through applied research, community-based teaching, engaged scholarship, and creative activity that leads to responsive, accessible, transformative, and meaningful learning experiences for all. Under the supervision of the Southern Area Director, this position will provide expertise in the areas of youth and community horticulture, community gardens, and conduct applied research in relation to these areas.
This is a full-time, tenure track Academic Faculty position.

Required qualifications:
A PhD in agriculture, horticulture, or other closely related field by time of appointment and
excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
Professional experience with population-based horticulture education programming in
community settings; extension programming and community engagement; population based
approaches in an urban environment; assessing community needs; program development,
implementation and evaluation in an urban environment; developing community relationships
with advocacy, citizen and coalition groups, stakeholders, university faculty, and other
community groups; personnel management, budgeting and administrative responsibilities;
writing and publication of scholarly work related to community horticulture education; and
use of digital media and social media
UNR Extension is an outreach arm of the University, funded by county, state and federal dollars, that extends unbiased, research-based knowledge from the University of Nevada, Reno to residents of southern Nevada.
