Orient Congregational Church, UCC, of Orient, NY is seeking a permanent organist/choir director for our Sunday worship services as well as some other services throughout the year. We are a small, friendly church and the candidate would be warmly received and supported.
Orient, NY is a small hamlet located at the very tip of the North Fork of Long Island, NY. Our church has been a vital presence in the heart of this town for over 300 years. We have a membership of 80, with weekly attendance averaging 30 - 50.
From September through June, our Sunday morning worship service is at 10:30 A.M. During July and August, we worship outside in our prayer garden, weather permitting, and the service starts at 9:30 A.M.
Our adult volunteer choir, consisting of 12 members, sings every week from September through June, but does not sing during the summer months. We currently have one rehearsal per week at 9:00 Sunday mornings.
The church has an electric Allen organ and a Kawaii baby grand piano. We also have a two-octave set of Schulmerich handbells.
The successful candidate will be expected to plan, prepare and provide organ and piano music for Sunday worship services and other church services, and work closely with the minister, the Music and Worship Committee, and the church choir. He/she will be responsible for selecting anthems and directing the choir.
Additional church services during the year include Christmas Eve and possibly one or two ecumenical services.
This is a part-time position, with no more than 10 hours of work expected each week.
Salary will be determined based on experience and other qualications.
