About the Position

The Youth Program Specialist is responsible for classroom instruction and training. The Youth Program Instructor will plan for and deliver youth education classes, administer examinations, collect and record data as it pertains to student progress. The Youth Program Instructor will integrate a holistic, student-centered approach to instruction and prepare students to become work-ready.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Instruction: (During the school year instruction is 25% of time, during summer session instruction is 80% of time).

  • Provide direct instruction in some or all of the following depending upon need: career exploration, college navigation, soft skills, job readiness, career-specific hard skills, and life skills.
  • Assist in developing curriculum material.
  • Develop and teach workshops from approved curriculum.
  • Assist with the development of activities and/or workshops to increase parental participation in the education of the student

Academic Guidance: (During the school year academic guidance is 40% of time, during summer academic guidance is 10% of time)

  • Assess each student's stage of academic development post high-school and promote student growth by determining suitable developmental tasks.
  • Serve as a liaison between Goodwill and community/technical college partners.
  • Support Case Manager/Academic Advisor in developing and revising an individual educational plan for each youth and document their progress, including any important milestones, as they matriculate through their college year and into a career.
  • Share student's educational progress and identified concerns and needs with college employment navigators on a quarterly basis.

Administrative Support: (During the school year program support is 35% of time, during summer program support is 10%)

  • Coordinate with other community organizations to develop service learning projects and other hands-on learning and work opportunities for the youth.
  • Plan for student meals and arrange special field trips
  • Assist with outreach to recruit youth into the program annually. Assist with the intake, assessment, and selection process annually.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; reports any potential hazards or accidents.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Science, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master's Degree preferred, however lived-experience and international experience considered in lieu of more traditional, US achieved credentials.
  • Experience: Must have experience working with multi-cultural youth who are experiencing multiple barriers to success.
  • Must have a min of 2yrs experience working with "at-risk" high school aged youth
  • Must have a min of 2ys in case management/academic navigation
  • Must have experience working with grant funded programs
  • Minimum two years teaching/training experience.
  • Experience in Aerospace or manufacturing industry is a big plus
  • Prefer a candidate with background in STEM or manufacturing industries if at all possible
  • Minimum two years working with high school students, in coordinating partnerships with schools, data collection and reporting, and youth academic program development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Multilingual skills a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • WA teaching certification or equivalent a plus.
  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to operate 15 passenger van

Computer/Technology Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Workspace a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.
