Internship Description

The mission of Mt. Cuba Center is to inspire an appreciation for the beauty and value of native plants and a commitment to support the habitats that sustain them.  The Greenhouse & Research Intern will participate in all aspects of greenhouse operation, plant propagation, and growing techniques to assist in the production of native plants in our indoor and outdoor growing facilities. Throughout the summer season, the intern will be exposed to the over 300 accessions of herbaceous and woody native plants produced per year for use in our gardens and research programs. Examples of greenhouse responsibilities include watering, potting, pinching, and general plant care. An emphasis will be placed on data collection and the organization of plant records in all phases of production.

The intern will also assist in Mt. Cuba Center’s trial garden operations, where they will help to assess the horticultural and ecological value of the various species and cultivars that are under evaluation. Additional trial garden responsibilities will include data collection, research for future trials and publications, and regular garden maintenance.
