Carpenter

  • Performs construction remodels and general maintenance tasks of buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in trades such as carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry and work.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools, including but not limited to chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders. Levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, or electronic versions of these tools.
  • Ability to read, interpret, analyze, estimate, plan and schedule work requirements from design plans and specifications.

  • Work involves performing a variety of duties including: framing walls, finish carpentry, replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, install and repair plaster and drywall cracks in walls and ceiling; replacing sinks, water coolers, painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks; replacing damaged paneling, carpet and floor tile; hanging doors and installing door locks; replacing windows, repairing or replacing various roofing materials.
  • Establish and maintain the best possible service relationship and communications with customers.
  • Perform work efficiently and effectively, producing a first class quality product.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all work details, work orders,and other required paperwork.
  • Duties may require extended work hours to support project requirements.
  • Split shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holiday hours may be required to complete project requirements.
  • Must be able to read, understand, speak and write English fluently.
  • Computer skills are highly desired to facilitate labor reporting, job completion and assistance in planning new projects.
  • Experience and skilled with hand and power tools
  • Must possess ability to read, interpret and understand plan and specification documents.
  • May coordinate activities and/or supervise field staff.
  • Ability to coordinate, direct and supervise activities of sub-contractor involvement.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and work from heights
  • Must be able to work on roofs of buildings
  • Must be physically capable of traveling.
  • Must have ability to maintain assigned work hours
  • Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over a long period of time

  • At least five years of related work in the construction field, or maintenance/repair of commercial buildings including carpentry, framing ,sheetrock, plumbing, drywall install and repair , painting, doors, door handles/locks, basic metal working.
  • Five years progressive experience in the building trades in such areas as carpentry, plumbing, painting, and/or metal working.
  • Basic experience working with HVAC mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment.
  • Must be able to interpret basic electrical, mechanical and structural plans and specifications to facilitate work to be done.
  • Must be trained and experienced in working with hand and power tools.
  • Experienced in all commercial building and construction safety and code compliance.
  • Knowledge and skill in basic computer soft wares.
  • Possession of a current valid Virginia Driver’s License
  • Must pass and maintain clear drug screening, and background check.
  • A certificate from a Trades School or several years experience in practicing the crafts mentioned above is highly desired.
  • General Contractor License highly desirable.
