Sierra Club’s Equity Department is charged with leading the organization to become a more equitable, just, and inclusive organization. To accomplish this, they are currently seeking a Deputy Director of Equity who will play a critical role in ensuring that the values of Equity, Inclusion, and Justice are echoed throughout their employee engagement, retention and employee relations strategies including complex conflict resolution and workplace investigations. The Deputy Director of Equity feels compelled to name injustice and works towards the dismantling of oppression and oppressive systems through their work on a daily basis. This Deputy Director is energized and motivated by the thought of being a leader within the department charged with implementing this work throughout a 100+ year old organization. The Deputy Director of Equity will play a key role in supporting organizational transformation through the management of programmatic staff, the cultivation of senior leader engagement, and the fostering of relationships with chapter leaders (regional grassroots support) and volunteers. The Deputy Director will also play a leadership role in upholding and implementing the direction of the department across the organization. Reporting to the Equity Director, the Deputy Equity Director will act as a senior manager for all equity-related matters. This is a full-time position with a flexible location but a strong preference for the Oakland, California headquarters, Washington, DC or the Denver, Colorado office.
