Overview:
The Enterprise Solutions division of SSI Schaefer specifies, designs, and implements software solutions for warehouse and fulfillment systems and supply chains. A Software Development Lead is responsible for managing a cross-functional team of software developers. The team will develop and execute software solutions for an independent group of IT projects. Knowledge of various programming languages, software development tools, software architecture, operating systems, hardware and network design and databases is necessary.
Responsibilities:
  • Leadership (60%)
    • Lead, coach and mentor Software Engineers and Software Developers
    • Manage the integration of software systems with equipment in warehouses centers
    • Monitor solution development and actively communicate with team members, Software Developers, Project Managers, and Customer Service Account Managers
    • Direct the integration of software solutions and material handling equipment based on software requirement specifications.
    • Hold the position of lead software developer for respective projects, if applicable
    • Mentor team in solution review and execution
    • Lead team and customer meetings on an as-needed basis
    • Lead the engineering team and ensure team compliance of all management directives, company and departmental policies, procedures and safety standards.
    • Participate in interviews for developer positions
    • Review solution prior to execution and provide constructive feedback
    • Quote solution cost in hours for change requests and feature bug fixes


  • Supervisory (20%)
    • Prepare and execute annual performance reviews for each team member
    • Offer and provide career path guidance
    • Identify, assign and direct work requirements. Create requirement analysis and software specifications.
    • Manage software development task, schedules and personnel
    • Mediate and resolve conflicts between team members
    • Execute disciplinary measures as needed


  • Development (20%)
    • Delegate and/or develop code implementations or solutions
    • Design and implement software solutions based on software requirement specifications
    • Test software implementation against requirements
    • Create small scale requirement analysis and software specifications
    • Develop software documentation for software implementation
    • Set-up and execute test scenarios for customer and on-site tests
    • Commission software on-site
    • Troubleshoot system issues in 1 st , 2 nd or 3 rd level depending on project requirements

      Additional Responsibilities:
      • Occasionally perform installation of network or computer hardware if required by a project in the office or on-site
      • Occasionally handle test product required for test scenarios on-site (Tubs, Totes, Cases etc.)
Qualifications:
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work
  • Minimum 1 years of experience in leading / mentoring a functional team
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Java or other object-oriented programming languages
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with SQL databases (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server)
  • May be required to travel internationally for training, project assignments, and commissioning
  • Must be able to work on-call in the primary or secondary developer role
