Position Summary:

The project primarily focuses on field and laboratory research studies on improved crop management practices that can substain yields and protect the enfironment in the Lower Mississippi River Delta. Studes are on-farm trials and laboratory research that seek to understand the impacts of innovative agricultural irrigation and cropping systems and technologies in the Arkansas Delta. This research contributes critical advances in water resource management in the region where 100% of high value crops are irrigated. Findings from this research will sustain and help make crop production in the Mid-South more resilient to fluctuations in climate and water use availability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory, greenhouse & field activities related to water quality and greenhouse gas studies in row crop production, including irrigation, data and sample collection, deployment of instruments and measurement
  • Conduct measurements and analyses of nutrients, pollutants and contaminants in agricultural water
  • Conduct physical analysis of runoff water following standard procedure for sediment concentrations and soluble solids
  • Conduct measurements of yield components of rice and other agronomic crops
  • Supervise Part-Time labor and provide technical knowledge/support to students, researchers, and staff assigned to research projects in the unit
  • Perform literature search for laboratory and field methods and keep abreast of recent scientific advancements by reading literature, review articles and attending supervisor approved meetings, workshop, and conferences
  • Summarize, analyze and organize experimental data in the form suitable for initial draft for publication in peer-reviewed journals and report writing of completed research projects
  • Write periodic laboratory and field reports including discussion on field trail design, principle, procedure, and outcomes
  • Perform operation, routine care, maintenance,and calibration of moderately complex laboratory and field instruments & equipment; conduct laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedure for routine chemical analysis and instruments; manage the upgrade of laboratory and field instruments and equipment as appropriate
  • Proficiently use computer software for data management, analysis and presentations
  • Other duties as assigned

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Regular and reliable attendance


Document and update laboratory and field procedures and modifications according to standard chemical and physical guidelines; strictly employ good housekeeping, materials safety precaution and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture and/or Environmental Sciences with a concentration in agronomy or closely related field in agricultural sciends.
