Job Description

Summary:

Community Outreach Managers (COMs) are responsible for strategically identifying and readying high-quality child-serving organizations for KaBOOM! grants. The COM’s role is pivotal, providing oversight and leadership to market strategy and to the selection process for KaBOOM! funding opportunities. They develop relationships and create partnerships that align community needs, Funding Partners’ interests and KaBOOM! grant program goals.  COMs also act as a liaison between community groups and KaBOOM! by representing and advocating for Community Partners to internal departments.  COMs lead and integrate new programs and projects that support KaBOOM! strategic priorities. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Match Community Partners with Funding Opportunities

  • Screen potential groups for KaBOOM! grant opportunities; facilitate conference calls with decision makers and community members to determine fit for funding opportunities; listen to and learn from communities about their lived realities and local play opportunities; set appropriate expectations for KaBOOM! grants; educate community groups on grant programs
  • Communicate regularly with internal departments to ensure visibility of Community Partner stories and progress through the screening process; collaborate to determine best path forward for each funding opportunity that balances the interests of Community Partner, funding opportunity and KaBOOM!
  • Identify necessary contract approval process for potential Community Partners, including but not limited to: receiving land ownership documents, identifying authorized signatories, delineating and identifying responsible parties to contract terms; finalizing contracts on behalf of KaBOOM! with Community Partners to guarantee KaBOOM! and Funding Partner interests are met
  • Present Community Partner information to an internal review panel to determine final viability and alignment for funding opportunities. Prepare written recommendations for Funding Partners
  • Confirm and award grants; facilitate transition of confirmed Community Partners to the Project Management Team for grant execution

Lead Market Strategy

  • Create outreach strategy in assigned markets and regions for multiple grant programs
  • Collaborate with Community Outreach Coordinators to ensure strategy execution on specific grant timelines
  • Identify, cultivate and manage relationships with non-profit child-serving organizations, schools and municipal offices in order to build new partnerships and create a pipeline of potential partners
  • Garner playground grant applications through research, networking, site visits, email and phone communication; analyze submitted applications to determine viability and alignment with funding opportunities; assess application pipeline capacity to integrate new programs or funding opportunities
  • Use Salesforce CRM to manage partner account information, ensuring accurate status of relationship; maintain accurate activity records and provide weekly activity summaries as outlined by Outreach team

Lead Outreach Work to Support Strategic Priorities

  • Strategically integrate new grant offerings and funding programs into Outreach processes
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support City Initiatives by aligning Community Partners and Funding opportunities with priority-city opportunities
  • When applicable, serve on market-specific, cross-department teams to deeply engage communities within public municipal systems
  • When applicable, collaborate with Account Management, Partnership Development and Project Management teams to create responsive execution strategies in order to complete new initiatives
  • Identify challenges and raise solutions to increase efficiencies and effectiveness with evolving work

General Assignments

  • Participate in KaBOOM! promotional activities to promote programs and products of the organization
  • Actively participate in the KaBOOM! staff development program
  • Actively contribute to our inclusive work environment by valuing other people regardless of differences and takes an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence
  • Occasional travel may be required

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree is required along with at least 2-3 years of relevant experience, ideally in community outreach, client services and/or community development
  • Excellent writing and oral skills are required; comfortable with heavy telephone communication and building relationships via phone and email communication
  • Possess demonstrated skills in building coalitions among people, organizations and institutions; experience gained in a nonprofit or community organization is a plus
  • Solid skills in persuasion and diplomacy; able to represent KaBOOM! professionally while facilitating complex conversations
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to hone in on the best and most qualified candidates
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks and projects at the same time; absorb information quickly but thoroughly
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills as well as a strong sense of personal responsibility for one’s work are valued
  • Candidate should be self-motivated, a team player, flexible, persistent and able to communicate assertively
  • Precise attention to detail and organizational skills are critical to success in this position
  • Intermediate level MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook skills
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desired

$45,000-$50,000
