Description

As an Estimating Technician, you will assist in the calculation of material quantity requirements, gathering and preparation of routine estimating data, and reproduction of drawing and other documents.

Responsibilities
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Monitor client addendum and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period
  • May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
  • Obtain knowledge of project and appropriate regulations required to construct the project to meet affirmative action requirements and MBE/WBE requirements
  • Review list of work to be performed by subcontractors
  • Partner with other estimators to turn project over to production team
  • Assist in the gathering and researching of company historical data used in the estimating function
  • Calculate material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions
  • Prepare summary reports from pre-existing data as required
  • Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures
  • Set productive, consistent, and acceptable work example
  • Maintains knowledge of Flatiron's company values and strategic plan
  • Support published corporate policies
  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 1 year estimating & cost control related experience and/or training
  • Or 2 years related experience and/or training
  • Construction design & engineering experience preferred
  • Beginner knowledge of reading blueprints
