Harvard University

16-Nov-2017
Senior Program Manager, Safe Surgery Program
Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
44206BR

Duties & Responsibilities
Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our goal is to drive scalable solutions for better care at critical moments in people's lives everywhere. Better care means better health outcomes, lower costs, and more actual caring. Critical means solving health systems failures that have major impact, typically touching people by the millions. Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care.

The Safe Surgery Program is the steward of one of Ariadne's most broadly accepted interventions, the Surgical Safety Checklist. Beyond spreading the Safe Surgery Checklist, the Safe Surgery Program also holds a portfolio of work that includes efforts to improve the safety, accessibility, and appropriateness of surgical care around the world. This work focuses on the entirety of the surgical continuum of care, including the decision to undergo surgery, the preparation before surgery, the conduct of the surgery itself, and recovery to optimal quality of life. The Safe Surgery team includes the Director of the Safe Surgery Program, the Senior Program Manager for Safe Surgery, 4 part-time faculty members, 2-3 surgery fellows, and 2 additional project managers.

At Ariadne Labs, the Senior Program Manager is a critical role for creating a scalable and sustainable program, responsible for ensuring that the work is delivered with excellence: on time, on budget, on scope, and with a high level of quality. In partnership with the Director of the Safe Surgery Program, the Senior Program Manager provides both strategic and day-to-day guidance and support to members of the Safe Surgery team. The Senior Program Manager is responsible for creating an integrated and consistent view of the work of the Safe Surgery Program, across all of its individual projects and team members, and including providing updates to Ariadne's leadership on program progress and project health. When the Director of Surgery is not available, it is the responsibility of the Senior Program Manager to lead both the team and the work forward. In addition, the Senior Program Manager has primary responsibility for relationship management and critical deliverables related to 1-2 specific surgery projects within the Safe Surgery portfolio of work. The Senior Program Manager is also responsible for supervising 2 staff members - a Project Coordinator III and a Project Manager.

Senior Program Managers are considered senior representatives of Ariadne Labs, its mission and its values, both internally and externally. This position requires an individual who is skilled at working consistently and collaboratively within Ariadne's matrix organization to draw in the right expertise at the right time to support the work of the program (i.e. - Revenue and Development, Finance, Communications, Innovation, Science & Technology, Implementation, and Talent Development). This position also requires experience in and comfortability with developing and maintaining senior-level external relationships through in-person and remote communication. At Ariadne Labs, all project managers report into the Project Management function; the Senior Program Manager will report directly to the Director of Project Management.

Duties and Responsibilities will be continued in the "Additional Information" section.
