Duties & Responsibilities
The Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL) at Harvard University invites applications from MA and Ph.D. level scholars with exceptional learning science, learning technology, educational data mining skills and relevant backgrounds in psychology, statistics, computer science, economics, political science or related fields to advance higher education through Harvard's ongoing research on assessing and improving residential, blended, and open digital learning environments.

This position is open for either a Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist level based on applicants' qualifications and experience.

Although specific projects will evolve based on the data analytics and research needs of the University as well as the expertise and interests of the Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist, specific responsibilities include:

  • Work with large and growing educational datasets using descriptive statistics and data visualization tools.
  • Create insights from existing data, and drive the collection of new data through experimentation.
  • Perform complex analytical tasks with limited direction.
  • Provide analytic and program evaluation support to the research team.
  • Identify methodological challenges related to the work and help resolve or elevate these within the research team.
  • Help assemble, clean, and manage data sets derived from multiple sources.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:

Master's degree in in psychology, learning science, education, data science, computer science, sociology, economics, political science or a related field. Five or more years of experience in educational research. Education or academic project experience may count towards years' experience.
