Working as a senior policy advisor within the oil, gas and mining campaign team, you will develop and implement advocacy and communications strategies, conduct research and provide policy recommendations to prevent corruption and advance transparency in in the oil, gas and mining sectors.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Develop and implement strategies for engaging with governments, industry and civil society to advocate for transparency with the highest impact;
Develop and execute campaigns which clearly meet their objectives and deliver measurable outcomes and change within agreed timescales
Organize and deliver research investigations in the oil, gas and mining sectors;
Lead the production of reports, policy documents, blogs and press releases for a variety of audiences to deliver campaign messages, including managing the legal sign off process;
Carry out effective advocacy and represent Global Witness to industry, governments, international bodies and regulators at the highest level;
Monitor, record and evaluate campaign impacts in line with organizational and/or funder requirements;
Build, develop, influence and maintain a strong network of contacts in government, industry, multi-lateral organizations, and local and international civil society;
Contribute to the strategy development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of Global Witness’ strand and organization advocacy and campaign outcomes;
Drive a collaborative approach to political change through developing and participating in coalitions with a diverse range of stakeholders including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government officials, think-tanks, businesses, law enforcement agencies and the public.
Work closely with the Communications team to produce a broad range of high quality communications which reach a diverse range of audiences;
Develop advocacy communication strategies and messages for Global Witness’s extractives policy work;
Monitor stakeholders and media outlets for breaking or major developments and announcements;
Prepare materials on key policy areas and investigative research for Global Witness’ website, social media, for blog posts and talking points;
Represent Global Witness in advocacy meetings with industry, governments, intergovernmental bodies and other key stakeholders;
Build strategic and ongoing relationships with members of the media and proactively look for alternative/innovative ways to communicate our core messages;
Speak publicly on issues related to extractive sector.

Manage the work of campaign staff as and when directed;
Represent extractives work to existing and potential donors;
Any other duties equal to the skills and responsibilities required for this role;
This role is based in Washington, D.C. with occasional travel.

Recognized ability to develop, build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including experience of collaborating with civil society;
Demonstrable experience of achieving change through advocacy with a broad range of stakeholders including governments, intergovernmental organizations, industry and civil society;
Experience conducting media interviews with a range of media;
Proven track record of producing a range of written materials for a variety of audiences, including reports, policy briefings and social media;
Strong desk-based research skills;
Experience developing and implementing advocacy strategies;
Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
Proven ability to work as part of teams and coalitions.
Knowledge of anti-corruption policies and/or natural resource sectors;
Experience in legal and/or natural resource sectors;
Experience using litigation as an advocacy tool;• Experience of working with the media or experience in journalism;
Experience supporting development, including donor engagement, preparing donor reports and grants applications.
Experience of designing, conducting and publishing investigations;
